ETH Staking Fees Compared: Lido, Rocket Pool, Coinbase, Kraken and Staking ETFs
Short answer · October 24, 2026
Every staking service keeps a share of your rewards. Published cuts for a typical balance:
- Lowest: Lido stETH and Coinbase cbETH 10%, Rocket Pool rETH 14% (solo staking 0%, but you need 32 ETH and your own validator).
- Exchanges: Kraken 25% (under $1M), Robinhood 25%, Coinbase 35% (25.25%–31.75% with Coinbase One), Gemini up to 35%, Binance.US 9.95%–39.95%.
- Staking ETFs: 5% to 25% of rewards plus a 0%–2.50% yearly sponsor fee, and none stakes all its ETH.
At a 2.55% gross rate, that is about 2.29% net through Lido, 1.91% through Kraken and 1.66% through standard Coinbase. On 10 ETH over 10 years, Lido earns about 0.76 ETH more than standard Coinbase.

Kraken’s tier uses your ETH × price (its tier counts all bonded assets). Gemini is shown at its “up to 35%” cap and Binance.US at the top of its 9.95%–39.95% range. Robinhood is shown at 100% of the protocol rate; it says ETH stakers get 50%–100%. ETFs pay rewards in cash and their yearly sponsor fee comes out of your holdings; FETH’s staked share is not published, so it is shown at 100% (an upper bound). Not a quote: actual rewards vary daily.
Every ETH staking fee, side by side
Fees below are each provider’s published cut of staking rewards, read from its own fee page or SEC filing on October 24, 2026. “Net APR” is our arithmetic at a 2.55% gross network rate (see the published rates check), not a quote.
| Option | Type | Fee on rewards | Yearly fee | Net APR | Minimum | Custody | Getting out | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Exchange rows use the entry-tier or maximum fee (Kraken 25% under $1M of bonded assets; Coinbase standard 35%; Gemini “up to 35%”; Binance.US top of range). Robinhood is shown at 100% of the protocol rate, “to” the 50% floor it discloses. ETF rows include the yearly sponsor fee and the share of ETH staked on Oct 16, 2026.
What the commission costs as a yearly percentage
A cut of rewards is easy to underrate. Turned into a share of your staked ETH, it looks like an expense ratio: commission × gross rate. At 2.55% gross:
| Option | Cut of rewards | Cost per year, % of staked ETH | On 10 ETH a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo staking | 0% | 0.00% | 0.0000 ETH |
| Lido stETH / Coinbase cbETH | 10% | 0.26% | 0.0255 ETH |
| Rocket Pool rETH | 14% | 0.36% | 0.0357 ETH |
| Kraken bonded ($0–1M) / Robinhood / Coinbase One Premium | 25% | 0.64% | 0.0638 ETH |
| Coinbase One Basic | 31.75% | 0.81% | 0.0810 ETH |
| Coinbase standard / Gemini (cap) | 35% | 0.89% | 0.0892 ETH |
So standard Coinbase staking costs about 0.89% of your ETH every year in forgone rewards, more than three times the 0.25% expense ratio of a non-staking ETF such as ETHA, and Kraken’s entry tier about 0.64%. The cut never touches your principal, though: in a year with zero rewards, you pay nothing. Compare ETF expense ratios in spot Ethereum ETFs compared.
Exchange staking: tiers and plans
Two exchanges publish a way to pay less. Kraken lowers its bonded commission as your total bonded balance grows, measured at each weekly payout. Coinbase lowers its cut for Coinbase One subscribers.
| Kraken bonded balance | Kraken commission | Coinbase plan | Coinbase commission |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0–1M | 25% | Standard | 35% |
| $1–5M | 20% | Coinbase One Basic | 31.75% |
| $5–50M | 10% | Coinbase One Preferred | 28.5% |
| $50–100M | 5% | Coinbase One Premium | 25.25% |
| $100M+ | 0% |
- Kraken: no fee to stake or unstake; ETH is bonded staking only (6-day bonding shown), paid weekly. Flexible staking and Auto Earn carry 30%. Its ETH page showed “up to 2.87% APY” before commission on October 25, 2026 (Kraken ETH staking).
- Coinbase: no fee to stake or for a standard unstake; instant unstaking costs a fee shown at request. The 1.65% estimated rate it showed on October 24, 2026 is already after the commission (Coinbase ETH staking). Whether Coinbase One’s lower cut covers its price: Is Coinbase One worth it?
- Gemini: Staking Services Fee “up to 35%” (fee schedule), raised to 35% in its June 2026 user agreement update, which also launched an automatic Asset Rewards program at a 30% commission. Gemini’s page showed ETH at “up to 2% APR”.
- Robinhood: 25% total (including a staking partner fee of at most 2.75%), and ETH stakers get 50%–100% of the protocol rate because stakes are pooled into 32 ETH batches (how that compares with Coinbase: Robinhood vs Coinbase).
- Binance.US: a 9.95%–39.95% service fee across staking assets; it does not list ETH’s exact cut, and its published rates are already net of the fee.
Liquid staking: Lido, Rocket Pool and cbETH
Liquid staking tokens keep your ETH usable (you can sell or use the token in DeFi) and charge the smallest cuts.
- Lido (stETH): 10% protocol fee, split between node operators and the DAO treasury by module (for example 5% + 5% in the curated module), taken during the daily rebase and waived when net rewards are negative. Lido’s API showed a 2.31% 7-day average APR on October 24, 2026.
- Rocket Pool (rETH): since Saturn 1, a 5% node operator commission plus a 9% voter share for RPL stakers and 0% to the treasury, so 14% in all, each adjustable by the protocol DAO. The API’s rETH APR was 1.81%.
- Coinbase cbETH: Coinbase’s cbETH page advertises a 10% commission with no lockups, much lower than its 35% for regular staking on the same platform.
Liquid staking adds smart-contract and depeg risk; see ETH staking risks and the head-to-head Lido vs Rocket Pool vs Coinbase.
Staking ETFs: two layers of fees
Six U.S. spot ETH ETFs stake. Each keeps part of the gross rewards for the sponsor, custodian and staking providers, charges its normal sponsor fee on all assets, and stakes only part of its ETH. Our estimate of what reaches holders at 2.55% gross:
| Fund | Cut of rewards | Sponsor fee | ETH staked | Staking yield to fund | Net after sponsor fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grayscale ETH (Mini) | 6% | 0.15% | 80.9% | 1.94% | 1.79% |
| Morgan Stanley MSSE | 5% | 0.14% | 50%–80% target | 1.94% | 1.80% |
| Fidelity FETH | 15% | 0.25% | Not published | 2.17% | 1.92% |
| iShares ETHB | 18% | 0.12% (0.25% after Mar 2027) | 76.5% | 1.60% | 1.48% |
| 21Shares TETH | 25% | 0% (0.21% after Oct 8, 2027) | 34.1% | 0.65% | 0.65% |
| Grayscale ETHE | 23% | 2.50% | 83.9% | 1.65% | −0.85% |
MSSE is shown at the top of its 50%–80% staking target (about 1.07% net at 50%); FETH does not publish its staked share, so 1.92% is an upper bound. ETHE’s 2.50% sponsor fee is larger than its staking income, so its holders still lose about 0.85% a year in ETH terms. Staked shares are from fund pages on Oct 16, 2026; fund details and filings are in spot Ethereum ETFs compared, and daily money flows in ETH ETF flows.
Published rates check: where 2.55% comes from
Working backwards from published net rates gives the same gross figure, which suggests the fee really is the main difference:
- Lido: 2.306% (7-day average) ÷ (1 − 10%) = 2.56% gross.
- Coinbase: 1.65% (estimated, after commission) ÷ (1 − 35%) = 2.54% gross.
- ethereum.org showed a 2.5% current APR; Rocket Pool’s API reported a 2.63% beacon chain APR.
- Kraken: “up to 2.87%” before commission on October 25, 2026, so about 2.15% after its 25% entry tier (its APY compounds weekly; the figure moved between 2.7% and 2.98% on October 24).
- Rocket Pool: the 1.81% rETH APR is below the 2.19% that 2.55% × (1 − 14%) implies. Rocket Pool’s API does not break the gap down, so we use the fee model in the calculator and show the published figure here.
Rates move daily with network activity; track them in ETH staking APR history.
How to pay less to stake ETH
- Compare the cut, not the headline APY. Some pages show rates before commission (Kraken) and others after (Coinbase, Lido, Binance.US).
- On Coinbase, check cbETH. Coinbase advertises 10% for cbETH versus 35% for standard staking.
- Avoid ETHE for staking income. Its sponsor fee alone is more than the staking yield it passes on.
- Factor in getting out. Exit times and instant-unstake fees vary; check the ETH unstaking queue.
- Remember taxes. U.S. staking rewards are generally income when received; estimate them with the staking rewards tax calculator.
- Buy cheaply first. A 1% buying fee wipes out months of staking rewards; see ETH exchange fees compared.
Method
- Fees come from each provider’s official fee page, help article, API or SEC filing, read on October 24, 2026. ETF staking cuts and sponsor fees come from the prospectuses and fund pages listed below; staked shares are as of Oct 16, 2026.
- Net APR = gross rate × staked share × (1 − cut) × share of protocol rate − yearly sponsor fee. The 2.55% gross default is the midpoint of the rates implied by Lido and Coinbase on October 24, 2026. Compounding is yearly.

ETH staking fees FAQ
Which ETH staking option has the lowest fees?
Solo staking has no commission at all, but needs 32 ETH and your own validator. Among services, Lido (stETH) and Coinbase’s cbETH take the smallest published cut at 10% of rewards, followed by Rocket Pool (rETH) at 14%. Exchange staking costs more for typical balances: Kraken 25% under $1 million, Robinhood 25%, Coinbase 35% (25.25% to 31.75% with Coinbase One) and Gemini up to 35%. Fees checked October 24, 2026.
What fee does Coinbase charge for staking ETH?
Coinbase keeps 35% of the ETH staking rewards for standard customers, and 31.75%, 28.5% or 25.25% for Coinbase One Basic, Preferred and Premium members. There is no fee to stake or for a standard unstake; instant unstaking has a fee shown when you request it. On October 24, 2026 Coinbase showed an estimated 1.65% reward rate for ETH after its commission, which implies about 2.54% before it.
How much does Kraken take from ETH staking rewards?
Kraken’s bonded staking commission depends on your total bonded balance: 25% from $0 to $1 million, 20% from $1 to $5 million, 10% from $5 to $50 million, 5% from $50 to $100 million and 0% above $100 million. Flexible staking and Auto Earn carry 30%, but ETH is offered as bonded staking only. Kraken showed “up to 2.87% APY” for ETH before its commission on October 25, 2026, so about 2.15% after 25%.
Is Lido’s 10% fee taken from my ETH?
It is taken from the rewards, not your principal. Lido’s 10% protocol fee is split between node operators and the Lido DAO treasury during the daily stETH rebase, so the APR Lido publishes (2.31% as a 7-day average on October 24, 2026) is already net of it. Lido waives the fee when consensus-layer penalties exceed rewards. The Lido DAO can change the fee by governance vote.
What is Rocket Pool’s fee for rETH holders?
Since the Saturn 1 upgrade, 14% of the rewards on the ETH that rETH holders supply goes to others: a 5% commission to node operators and a 9% voter share to RPL stakers, with 0% to the protocol treasury. Rocket Pool’s API reported both shares (5 and 9) on October 24, 2026. Governance can adjust each share. The published rETH APR that day was 1.81%, lower than the fee alone would suggest.
Do staking ETFs charge a fee on staking rewards?
Yes, on top of their yearly sponsor fee. The six U.S. spot ETH ETFs that stake keep 5% (MSSE), 6% (Grayscale ETH), 15% (FETH), 18% (ETHB), 23% (ETHE) or 25% (TETH) of gross rewards, and none stakes all of its ETH. On our arithmetic at a 2.55% gross rate, Grayscale’s ETH and MSSE pass through about 1.8% a year after all fees, ETHB about 1.5% and TETH about 0.65%, while ETHE’s 2.50% sponsor fee exceeds its staking income (about −0.85%).
How much do staking fees cost me over time?
At a 2.55% gross rate, 10 ETH staked for 10 years earns about 2.86 ETH solo, 2.55 ETH through Lido, 2.42 ETH through Rocket Pool, 2.09 ETH through Kraken (25%) and 1.79 ETH through standard Coinbase (35%). The gap between Lido and standard Coinbase is about 0.76 ETH, roughly $1,760 at an ETH price of $2,314.59. Use the calculator to plug in your own amount, years and rate.
Is a 35% staking commission like an ETF expense ratio?
You can compare them. A 35% cut of a 2.55% reward equals about 0.89% of your staked ETH each year, more than three times the 0.25% expense ratio of a non-staking ETF like ETHA. Lido’s 10% works out to about 0.26% a year, Rocket Pool’s 14% to about 0.36% and Kraken’s 25% to about 0.64%. The difference is that the staking fee only applies to rewards, so it never shrinks your principal.
Why are Robinhood’s ETH staking rewards lower than the protocol rate?
Two reasons. Robinhood’s total fee is 25% of the rewards, which includes a staking partner fee of no more than 2.75%. And because it pools customer ETH into 32 ETH batches, Robinhood says ETH stakers receive between 50% and 100% of the protocol rate. At a 2.55% gross rate that works out to about 0.96% to 1.91% net.
Can I reuse this staking fee data?
Yes. The CSV and JSON list 15 ways to stake ETH (solo, 3 liquid staking tokens, 5 exchanges and 6 staking ETFs) with their fee on rewards, any yearly sponsor fee, staked share, published rate, minimum, unstaking route, custody, notes and source links.
