How many ETH for $1 million at different prices
The math is one division, so the useful part is seeing it at several prices at once. The bold column is the ETH needed for $1,000,000. The last column multiplies each price by today's supply to show how big the whole Ethereum network would have to be.

*Price × about 122.1 million ETH (CoinGecko circulating supply, October 17, 2026). For scale, Bitcoin's market cap was about $1.64 trillion and Ethereum's about $295 billion that day.
What ETH price makes your stack worth $1 million?
Flip the question if you already hold ETH. Divide $1,000,000 by your coin count. Small stacks need prices that would make Ethereum several times larger than Bitcoin is today. That isn't impossible, but it is a very large assumption. Monthly buys usually move the needle more than waiting.

How long it took in real life: $100 a month since 2017
These rows are history, not scenarios. Each one buys $100 of ETH on the first trading day of every month on Coinbase, then values the coins at the October 16, 2026 close. The last column scales the plan up to the monthly amount that would be worth $1 million today.
| $100/month since | Invested | ETH bought | Worth Oct 16, 2026 | Monthly that would be $1M today |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 2017 | $11,800 | 51.994 | $125,318 | $798 |
| Jan 2018 | $10,600 | 19.034 | $45,876 | $2,180 |
| Jan 2019 | $9,400 | 15.508 | $37,378 | $2,675 |
| Jan 2020 | $8,200 | 8.227 | $19,829 | $5,043 |
| Jan 2021 | $7,000 | 3.238 | $7,804 | $12,814 |
| Jan 2022 | $5,800 | 2.654 | $6,397 | $15,633 |
| Jan 2023 | $4,600 | 2.002 | $4,825 | $20,726 |
| Jan 2024 | $3,400 | 1.308 | $3,152 | $31,723 |
Only the earliest start comes close to an ordinary budget: about $800 a month from January 2017 would be worth roughly $1 million now. Plans started in 2021 or later are within about 11% of the money put in, up or down, because the October 2026 price is close to the average price paid since then. Which growth rate is realistic? What ETH actually returned
The scenario table above lets you pick 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% or your own rate. Here is how ETH actually compounded over different windows ending October 16, 2026, measured on Coinbase daily closes:
| Window to Oct 16, 2026 | Start close | Total change | Per year (CAGR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 yearfrom Oct 16, 2025 | $3,894.91 | 0.62× | -38.1% |
| 3 yearsfrom Oct 16, 2023 | $1,600.02 | 1.51× | +14.6% |
| 4 yearsfrom Oct 16, 2022 | $1,306.04 | 1.85× | +16.6% |
| 5 yearsfrom Oct 16, 2021 | $3,829.66 | 0.63× | -8.8% |
| 8 yearsfrom Oct 16, 2018 | $205.43 | 11.73× | +36.0% |
| 10 yearsfrom Oct 16, 2016 | $11.95 | 201.70× | +70.0% |
Two things stand out. First, returns depend enormously on the start date: the 5-year figure is negative while the 8-year figure is +36% a year. Second, the spectacular long-run numbers come from a price near $12 in 2016. Repeating 70% a year from $2,400 for a decade would put ETH above $480,000, a network worth tens of trillions of dollars. Use history to test a range, not to pick a target. For year-by-year numbers see ETH vs BTC returns. For the odds of specific prices by year-end, see the ETH price target probability tool.
The paper-millionaire problem
Hitting $1 million on a screen and keeping it are different things. 207 ETH was worth $1 million at the August 22, 2025 record close of $4,831.24. Ten months later, at the June 25, 2026 low close of $1,565.19, the same coins were worth about $324,000. At the October 16, 2026 close they were worth about $499,000.
It happened before, too. A $1 million stack at the November 8, 2021 peak ($4,811.90) was worth about $206,000 at the June 18, 2022 low. It did not get back to $1 million until August 2025, 1,383 days after the peak. If reaching a number would change your life, decide in advance what you would do there: take some profit, rebalance or keep holding. The position-sizing guide helps you size a stack you can hold through a drop like that.
How staking changes the math
Staking pays you in ETH, so it grows your coin count rather than the price. At the Lido stETH 7-day average of 2.22% (October 17, 2026), compounding gives about 24% more ETH after 10 years and about 55% more after 20 years. In the calculator, a $1,000-a-month plan at a 20% growth scenario reaches $1 million about a year sooner with 2.2% staking than without it. That helps, but price growth still dominates.
Staking also adds risks: smart-contract bugs in liquid staking, validator penalties, exchange custody and withdrawal delays. Compare rates and trade-offs in the staking yield comparator and Lido vs Rocket Pool vs Coinbase.
Millionaire vs retirement: which number do you need?
$1 million is a milestone, not a plan. If your real goal is income, start from what you spend. Our how much ETH do I need to retire guide works backward from monthly income and staking yield. The ETH wealth simulator charts bear, base and bull paths over decades and compares them with the S&P 500. This page answers a narrower question: how many coins, at what price, and how fast.
Remember that the headline number is pre-tax. In the U.S., the IRS treats digital assets as property, so selling at a gain is usually taxable. Exchange spreads and fees also come off the top. Rough out the tax with the crypto tax estimator.
How the calculator works
- ETH needed = target ÷ ETH price. Price your stack needs = target ÷ ETH you hold.
- Time to target runs month by month. Each month it buys your monthly amount at that month's price, adds 1/12 of the staking yield (compounded) to your ETH, and grows the price by 1/12 of the scenario rate (compounded). It stops when ETH × price reaches the target, up to 50 years.
- Monthly buy needed solves for the monthly amount that reaches the target in your chosen number of years under each scenario.
- Price: live ETH/USD from the public Coinbase exchange-rates API. If it is unavailable, the calculator falls back to the October 16, 2026 Coinbase close ($2,410.26) and says so. You can also type your own price.
- Not included: taxes, fees, spreads, inflation (results are in nominal dollars), changes in staking rates and the fact that real prices swing wildly instead of compounding smoothly.
ETH millionaire FAQ
How much ETH do I need to be a millionaire?
Divide $1,000,000 by the ETH price. At the Coinbase close of $2,410.26 on October 16, 2026 that is about 415 ETH. At the August 22, 2025 record close of $4,831.24 it was about 207 ETH. At $10,000 per ETH it would be 100 ETH, and at $31,250 it would be 32 ETH. The calculator on this page does the same math with the live price.
Is 10 ETH enough to become a millionaire?
Only if ETH reaches $100,000, which is about 41.5 times the October 16, 2026 close. At today’s supply of roughly 122.1 million ETH, that price implies a market value of about $12.2 trillion, around 7.5 times Bitcoin’s whole market cap of about $1.64 trillion on October 17, 2026. Adding monthly buys or staking lowers the price you need.
Is 32 ETH enough to become a millionaire?
32 ETH, the classic solo-validator amount, is worth $1 million at $31,250 per ETH. That is about 13 times the October 16, 2026 close and implies a market value of roughly $3.8 trillion at current supply, about 2.3 times Bitcoin’s market cap on October 17, 2026.
How long does it take to become an ETH millionaire with DCA?
It depends entirely on how much you add and what ETH does. Starting from zero at $2,410 and buying $1,000 a month with 2.2% staking, our calculator reaches $1 million in about 14 years if ETH grows 20% a year, about 20 years at 10% a year, and never within 50 years if the price stays flat. For history: $100 a month from January 2017 would be worth about $125,000 at the October 16, 2026 close, so roughly $800 a month over the same period would have produced about $1 million.
What annual growth rate should I assume for ETH?
Nobody knows, which is why the calculator shows several scenarios side by side. Measured on Coinbase daily closes to October 16, 2026, ETH’s compound annual growth was 70% over 10 years, 36% over 8 years, −8.8% over 5 years and 14.6% over 3 years. The huge early returns came from a price near $12; repeating them from $2,400 would require trillions of dollars of new value. Always look at the 0% row too.
Does staking ETH help you reach $1 million?
A little. Staking adds ETH, not dollars. At the Lido stETH 7-day average of about 2.2% (October 17, 2026), rewards compound to roughly 24% more ETH after 10 years and 55% more after 20 years. That shortens the timeline, but price growth dominates the result, and staking adds smart-contract, slashing, custody and liquidity risks.
Can I become an ETH millionaire and then lose it?
Yes, and it has happened at every major peak. 207 ETH was worth $1 million at the August 22, 2025 close of $4,831.24. At the June 25, 2026 low close of $1,565.19 the same coins were worth about $324,000, and about $499,000 at the October 16, 2026 close. After the November 2021 peak, a $1 million stack fell to about $206,000 by June 2022 and took until August 2025 to recover.
Is a $1 million ETH balance the same as being a millionaire?
Not quite. It is a pre-tax paper value at one moment. Selling usually triggers capital gains tax (in the U.S., the IRS treats digital assets as property), exchange spreads and fees reduce what you receive, and the price can move a lot before you sell. Many people therefore plan around a higher target or diversify part of the gains.
